		Miriam & Emmett McCoy Diabetes Research Laboratory Dedication  October 10, 2003 The Miriam and Emmett McCoy Foundation has committed $150,000 to help fund diabetes research using Stem Cells. Another $150,000 from the foundation will support educational programs for health care professionals, who in turn train diabetics to manage their condition. Part of the McCoy Foundation contribution will enable the development of an educational program at the Stark Diabetes Center that offers the latest training to health care professionals who instruct adult diabetes patients on how to manage the disease themselves. The Stark Diabetes Center treats over 6000 Patients per year with both type 1 (insulin-dependent) and type-II diabetes. The gift will help implement annual training, and update seminars, develop and online continuing education program, include such criteria in existing telehealth and distance education formats, and continue onsite training for diabetes educators throughout the year at the Stark Diabetes Center.
